Anime Characters You Were Hoping Would End Up Together, But Never Did

It's frustrating, it's infuriating, but that's just part of what makes anime stories so interesting. These characters had great chemistry together and you were rooting for them to be together so you followed the series to the final episode.

However things just didn't end up your way and they didn't get together. Here are some perfect examples.

(Warning: Spoiler alert for those who haven't watched these anime)

1. Rukia and Ichigo from Bleach

Anyone who watched Bleach knew that these two had intense chemistry once they appeared on screen together and there were many instances when they showed affection for one another. There were hints dropped throughout the very long series. In the end, Ichigo was paired of with Orihime, much to the disappointment of IchiRuki shippers.

2. Mugi and Hanabi from Kuzu no Honkai (Scum's Wish)

The two main protagonist start off being in love with other people and are honest that they're hooking up just to keep each other company and make the pain a little easier to bear. However, one would expect them to realize that they were suited for each other towards the end, but they walked away from it all.

3. Tenma and Harima from School Rumble

Harima is an ex-delinquent who has put his past behind him to attend school. Here he meets and falls for Tenma, but she is completely ignorant of his feelings throughout the entire series as she's in love with someone else. This leaves the two main protagonists only good friends until the very end.

4. Nozaki and Sakura from Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki Kun

Despite being a talented manga artist that does romance stories, Nozaki is clueless about relationships in real life. He simply remains oblivious to Sakura's feelings for him throughout the series and does little to progress their relationship so they end up just having a (mostly) working relationship.

5. Maka and Soul from Soul Eater

Despite sharing a home together and being partners, whereby Soul transforms into Maka's weapon, the two have never gone past some hand holding and a ballroom dance. However, hints of their romance have been splattered all over the anime series, like both of them showing that they care for one another. However, everything stays platonic in both the anime and manga for these two.
