Old games remade for the new generation: Remakes are an interesting genre of games

Remakes are an interesting thing, when we consider the new generation of players. For them, graphics are king. They are used to 3d models, environmental art, and not pressing buttons.

Take this screenshot below to a young person and ask how does it look, chances are they will say that it looks bad.

This is a beautifully detailed boss which is a giant crab hefting a guntower chasing after the player, and to some younger audience, the game may look bad and old, all due to the bland background, and pixelated player sprites.

And if you show them any SNES RPG, you'll get a reply akin to the lines of "Those are just big colored dots... Is that human?"

Square Enix has seen this issue, and is taking efforts to remake their games. Changing the sprites from 2d to 3d, or enhancing visual quality seems to be the key, but reception to them is mixed. Still, we should thank these efforts to show that remakes of games can be sold, as we are able to discuss games from our childhood with the newer generation.

Check out some remakes of games that you can play below.

And check out some remakes of games that has yet to be released.

You can clearly see the noticeable difference in quality. Initial reception of the two games above are good, and we can expect to look forward to more games being remade in the future.
