Scientists Debug The Possibilities And Outcomes If a "The Last Of Us" Scenario Were To Happen

From viruses to natural disasters to zombie outbreaks to alien invasions to man-made catastrophes, there certainly aren't any shortages of post-apocalyptic stories, all telling their unique, fictional take on what would happen to human civilization and societies in general if the world would to suffer something of that scale.

The Last of Us is one of those.

Regarded as one of the best, if not the best video games to have ever existed, the story of The Last of Us isn't something wholly new, but what makes it distinct from the rest of the crowd is its natural writing, superb storytelling, compelling characters and the gritty and dark themes, among others.

But what makes it a masterpiece is largely perhaps because of how believable and realistic the game is, how it makes you become fully immersed in this world, that the possibility of such an outcome could happen.

Instead of taking the tried and tested formula of a fictional airborne virus or some fantasy-like plague, The Last of Us instead is based on a real life fungal infection known asCordyceps (don't worry, it only affects certain insects...for now), which makes it scarier.

But just how real is The Last of Us in portraying what would happen if an outbreak like this were to happen?

Watch the video below as a group of scientists from different specialization, including a microbiology and vaccine expert, an ethicist and a video game journalist dissect this:
