Upgrade the Game 2: Review - Sharing the frustration of making a game

Score: 4/10

Pros

  • Simplistic gameplay where the goal is to get the game to the best state it is
  • Hilarious programmer graphics and music
  • Multiple upgrades and content to discover

Cons

  • The unlock and achievement boxes disappears after time, and not by a tap.
  • Upgrades tied to progression

As a game, Upgrade The Game 2 is a basic point and click minigame. Players throw bombs to destroy the enemy, and they lose lives if any enemy goes beyond the screen. As players progress, you unlock new abilities like lasers and more upgrades for the game.

The twist is the game starts out with the most bare bones assets, and players will have to use in game currency to upgrade the assets. It is an insightful look into how much thought is placed inside such a simple game, as the massive amount of upgrades would astound players who have not tried developing a game.
